Overview The furry fandom is a subculture of individuals who are interested in expressing themselves as anthropomorphised animals, typically dogs or cats but also other common wild mamals like deer or squirels, reptiles (often refered to as scalies instead of furries), and even mythical/made up animals. The origins of the furry fandom stretch back to the 1970s where comics were produced depicting anthopomorphised animals, but the term "furry" originated at a science fiction convention in 1980, when a character drawing from Steve Gallacci's Albedo Anthropomorphics started a discussion of anthropomorphic characters in science fiction novels. This led to the formation of a discussion group that met at science fiction conventions and comics conventions. Fur Suits When going to meetups and conventions members of the furry fandom often wear full body "fur suits" which are typically custom made to portray their "fursona" (combination of "furry" and "persona") which is how they view their true selves. These suits are often hand built by suit makers and can sell for multiple thousands of dollars. Therians A therian identifies as a species of non-human animal on every level except physical and often engage in their animal identity’s behaviors, this differenciates them from furries as typically furries maintain a level of separation between themselves and thier fursona while therians believe they are wholly non-human. This term rose to popularity in gen z and alpha, mostly through TikTok, in the early 2020s and is closely linked to the furry subculture as therians often dress up in animal-like costumes with masks, tails and accessories although typically not full fur suits. Therians will often wear these outfits and accessories in their day to day life like going to school etc. Yiffing and Controversies The furry fandom likes to portray its image as welcoming for all ages and "safe for work", however, there is a subfaction of the fandom who like to partake in sexual acts upon eachother while dressed in their fur suits, which is known as "yiffing". The fandom is somewhat split on their opinions of yiffing as some are okay with it so long as it is behind closed doors and away from children while others hold the opinion that the abundance of children who are in the fandom and go to conventions means it is completely inappropriate to use these meetups as a mainly sexual excercise. While many conventions have strict rules around nudity, sexual acts and drug use both on and off the convention floor, certain conventions gained a reputation for being leanient with their rules and "cultivating" reputations for being more "fun". One disasterous example of a convention like this was the Seattle Rainfurrest convention which closed in 2015 after attendees partook in heavy alcohol and drug use, walked around in and publicly discarded of used diapers and caused thousands of dollars in property damage to the hotel. Video documenting Rainfurrest 2015 BLFC Cum Pizza Party Incident Before the Big Little Furry Convention in Reno, Nevada in october of 2021, a member of the local furry community called manedwolfy made a Twitter poll to ask individuals if they would be interested in orgasming onto a pizza at a party at the convention. This poll garnered 577 votes and 67.8% of people voted in favour of the event. He would later make tweets confirming attendees and discussing the logistics of the event and even create a PowerPoint presentation to pitch the idea to potential hosts in Reno. On the second day of the event manedwolfy would make a tweet stating: "It's happening. We're officially on 10 cummers. I cant fuckimg believe this shit LOL." This was followed by several more tweets by multiple users documenting the events and number of "cummers" who finished on the pizza as well as a video of manedwolfy eating the pizza with visible cum on it. The uneaten remains of the pizza were then left outside in the hallway of the hotel for an undetermined amount of time while the party continued on inside the room until users on Twitter complained and the pizza was finally placed in a bin.
